Behavioral and cognitive neuroscience, neuro-linguistics
Participation in the research activities of the Unit related to the investigation of the behavioral and neural correlates of semantic processing in sensory-deprived individuals. In particular, the comprehension of how unisensory information is processed and integrated into a supramodal representation represents a current challenge for research in the neuroscience of the ‘blind brain’. Original approaches in neuroimaging studies should look for potential functional similarities between congenitally blind and sighted individuals, and assess whether these homologies are dependent on sensory modalities, particularly when dealing with conceptual knowledge across semantic categories. In particular, research activities regard:
- experimental setup of behavioral and brain functional studies (functional magnetic resonance imaging) of semantic processing in sighted and visually-deprived individuals;
- analysis of behavioral data using tools of computational linguistics;
- analysis of brain functional data using univariate and multivariate processing analyses;
- general activities of support to the Institute research and supervision of PhD students.
