The candidate is expected:
To conduct research relevant to IMT’s strategy and contribute to the overall research performance of the School, carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high-quality journals.
To generate independent and original research within the specialist areas listed below and to contribute to the overall research performance of the School by publishing in leading international journals and conferences, by producing measurable outputs including bidding for funding and by recruiting and supervising postgraduate research students.
The candidate is expected to conduct research in the areas relevant to Network group, including: Advanced processing of neuroimaging data; complex network modeling of temporally dynamic, spatially embedded and multilevel organized brain’s structural and functional architecture in neurological diseases, psychiatric disorders and healthy patients; advanced investigation of mental illness comorbidities; network modeling of genetic informed neuroimaging analysis.
The candidate must provide an established expertise and proven portfolio of research within one or more of the following research fields:
Signal processing of neuroimaging data, including structural and microstructural (DTI, HARDI), BOLD (Brain Oxygenation Level Dependent) and quantitative (Arterial Spin Labelling) MRI data; Biophysical modelling of functional MRI signals; Modelling of tissue biophysics and/or neurophysiology; Advanced analysis of neuroimaging data, including complex network theory of temporally dynamic, spatially embedded and multilevel organized brain’s structural and functional architectures in neurological diseases, psychiatric disorders and healthy patients.
Essential criteria are also: Knowledge of current status of research in the fields of complex networks theory, neuroimaging and neuroscience, relevant to one or more; specialism(s) listed above. Established international reputation; Proven record in international journal; Proven ability to be successful in contributing to competitive research funding.
The candidate must possess a postgraduate degree at PhD level in a subject area relevant to network neuroscience methods development e.g. Physics / Engineering and be suitable for the inclusion in the competition sector 02/D1 – Fisica applicata, didattica e storia della fisica. An excellent level of both written and spoken English is mandatory.
The candidate must prove ability in effective and persuasive communication, ability to supervise the work of others to focus team efforts and motivate individuals, ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to be able to communicate complex information to individuals.

Selection procedure and criteria
Selection procedure conditions are transparent and are based on international standards.
Procedure
A Selection Committee, appointed by the Director, assesses all applications on the basis online application info and - if provided - reference letters. Applicants selected on the basis of the preliminary analysis are interviewed at the Job Market Meetings in which the Institute is planning to participate, if applicable to the specific academic sector. Alternatively, individual preliminary interviews may also be conducted at IMT or by conference call. Travel expenses to Lucca for the preliminary interview will not be reimbursed. Shortlisted candidates are invited for a Job Market Presentation open to IMT faculty members and students. Travel expenses for the Job Market Presentation will be reimbursed.
Selection Criteria
The evaluation criteria are based on: Quality of research activity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and references; Research organization experience and participation in international/national research projects and research periods in public and private institutions (academic and non-academic); Relevance of the candidate's profile for the development of IMT's research activities; Teaching, mentoring and supervision experience; Motivation; Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; As well as any other requirements as specified in the advertisement.
