The candidate has a MSc degree in (preferably theoretical) physics or similar, and experience in the study of random graph ensembles, renormalization techniques, complex systems and network models. The candidate has a multidisciplinary approach combining statistical physics, probability theory, and network science. Evidence of prior research in the topics of coarse-graining and renormalization applied to networks is a plus.
The candidate will carry out research in the field of network effects in the context of renormalization of networks, through the analysis of the properties of random graph ensembles described by scale-invariant probabilities. The research will involve both analytical approaches and simulation studies. The expected objective is the characterization of the main topological properties of scale-invariant random graphs (degree distribution, occurrence of small subgraphs, etc.) in the “annealed” regime where each node is characterized by a random variable drawn from a stable probability distribution. The research will be conducted in collaboration betweem the RU Networks (IMT) and the group of Prof. Luca Avena at the Mathematical Institute of Leiden University (the Netherlands).
