The IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca has a new director elected at the first round with 84% of the weighted votes: it is Professor Rocco De Nicola, born in 1954, the sole candidate for the succession to Director Pietro Pietrini, whose second term of office will expire on October 31.
The election saw a great turnout with an expression of over 90% of the weighted votes. According to the IMT School’s statute, all members of the School have the right to vote: full professors (19 professors at the moment), assistant professors and post-doctoral fellows (15% of the weighted vote), administrative staff (10%), and students (5%).
"I am grateful to all my Colleagues, students, and the administrative staff for the wide manifestation of confidence and estimation in myself. To all, I renew my commitment to continue the growth of the School and the strengthening of its role at the national and international level," commented Prof. De Nicola.
"I am delighted with the choral demonstration of support to Prof. De Nicola, a sign of the unity [MOU1] and participation of the School, capable of harmonious institutional confrontation, and essential to continue in the perspective of growth undertaken. My warmest congratulations to Prof. De Nicola," concluded Prof. Pietrini.
In recent years, the IMT School has grown considerably from many points of view. For example, new full professors have already been called and will take service in the next coming months, thus doubling the School's faculty compared to six years ago. Furthermore, the number of young researchers and students has increased. As demonstrated by today's elections, a School united with a firmly united vision: in solid growth and projected towards the future for an ever-greater role in the higher education landscape in our country and the world.
