Activity

The appointed candidate will conduct independent and original research in a multidisciplinary framework at the intersection between the fields of psychology, medicine, and engineering. The candidate is expected to conduct research in the areas relevant to the MoMiLab Research Unit, including advanced processing of brain functional data, with respect in particular to elctrophysiological (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), used both independently and in combination; advanced analysis of peripheral biosignals, including electrocardiography, electromyography, microneurography, and photoplethysmography; identification of biomarkers and creation of (patentable) applications with translational relevance based in particular on biosignals recorded from peripheral and central systems; investigation of both physiological conditions and clinical disorders including neurological, psychiatric, metabolic, and cardiovascular diseases.

Profile

The candidate must possess established expertise and a proven portfolio of research within one or more of the following research fields: signal processing of electrophysiological and neuroimaging data, including BOLD (Blood Oxygenation Level Dependent) MRI data; biophysical modeling of central and peripheral biosignals; advanced analysis of brain functional data; application of signal processing and analysis methodologies to the study of physiological and pathological conditions. Important criteria also include knowledge of current status of research in the field of bioengineering applied to medicine and neuroscience; established international collaborations; a proven record of publications in international scientific journals.

Formal requirements

PhD in a field related to the present call obtained in Italy or abroad. Curriculum with a suitable scientific background for carrying out research activity in the required field.

Procedure

A Selection Committee, appointed by the Rector, assesses all applications on the basis online application info. Applicants selected on the basis of the preliminary analysis are interviewed at the Job Market Meetings in which the Institute is planning to participate, if applicable to the specific academic sector. Alternatively, individual preliminary interviews may also be conducted at IMT or by conference call. Travel expenses to Lucca for the preliminary interview will not be reimbursed. Shortlisted candidates are invited for a Job Market Presentation open to IMT faculty members and students. Travel expenses for the Job Market Presentation will be reimbursed.

Selection Criteria

The evaluation criteria are based on: Quality of research activity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and references; Research organization experience and participation in international/national research projects and research periods in public and private institutions (academic and non-academic); Relevance of the candidate's profile for the development of IMT's research activities; Teaching, mentoring and supervision experience; Motivation; Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken; As well as any other requirements as specified in the advertisement.
