My name is Alice Bertolini and I am a Materials Engineer, Ph.D. Student in the Management of Digital Transformation (MDT), Industrial Program at the IMT School for Advanced Studies of Lucca. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering (2018) and a Master's Degree in Materials & Nanotechnology (2021), curriculum Advanced Materials, both from University of Pisa. During my previous academic and working experience, I focused on bioplastics synthesis, solid-state batteries development, ceramics sintering process and carbon fiber-based composites production techniques.
I am interested primarily in the fields of Materials Science, Computational Mechanics and Process Sustainability. My research activities related to the study and analysis of physico-chemical properties and mechanical behaviour of sludge-based materials in different application areas, through the integration between theoretical modeling or finite element-based simulations and experimental trials. My PhD project "Paper mill sludge: new valorization opportunities" is currently carried on in collaboration with the leader paper company Lucart S.p.A., with the aim of promoting new applications of a well-known, consistent and challenging, industrial waste in the context of a more sustainable and circular economy.
