From crises to theory: towards a science of resilience and recovery for economic and financial systems

a ricercatrice o il ricercatore svolgerà attività di ricerca pertinente alla declaratoria del settore scientifico disciplinare FIS/03 con particolare riguardo alla modellizzazione ed all'analisi dei sistemi complessi e delle reti reali. La ricercatrice o il ricercatore condurrà attività di ricerca all'interno dell'unità NETWORKS, il cui focus principale è lo studio della struttura e della dinamica delle reti che emergono dalle interconnessioni tra le unità che costituiscono i sistemi complessi. L'unità NETWORKS combina l'approccio teorico, basato sulla fisica statistica, la teoria dell'informazione e la matematica discreta, con quello data-driven informato dalle proprietà empiriche delle reti complesse reali. L'attività della ricercatrice o del ricercatore si integrerà pienamente con quella dei membri dell'unità NETWORKS, contribuendo ai progetti attualmente in corso (in particolare, quelli attinenti al PNRR - Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza) che puntano all'individuazione di metodi per ricostruire reti economiche (e.g. quelle tra imprese) e quantificarne la resilienza agli shock, endogeni (e.g. conseguenti al dissesto delle catene produttive in seguito a catastofri naturali) ed esogeni (e.g. provenienti dal settore finanziario). Dato il carattere fortemente interdisciplinare della ricerca condotta all'interno dell'unità NETWORKS, ci si attende una regolare collaborazione con esperti di livello nazionale ed internazionale in campi quali fisica, matematica, computer science, economia e finanza. La ricercatrice o il ricercatore dovrà occuparsi di attività di project management, ricerca bibliografica, raccolta ed analisi dati, scrittura di articoli da sottoporre a riviste peer-reviewed di livello internazionale, partecipazione a conferenze e workshop internazionali.

The successful candidate will carry out research within the NETWORKS unit, whose main focus is studying the structure and the dynamics of networks emerging from the interconnectedness of the constituents of large complex systems. The NETWORKS unit combines a theoretical approach, largely based on statistical physics, information theory and discrete mathematics with a data-driven approach informed by the empirical properties of real-world complex networks. The successful candidate's activity is expected to fully integrate within the NETWORKS unit research landscape. The research activity will address the agenda of the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PNRR): in particular, the successful candidate will contribute to ongoing projects focusing on the reconstruction of economic networks (e.g. the interfirm ones) and the quantification of their resilience against endogenous shocks (e.g. the disruptions of supply chains as a consequence of natural disasters) as well as esogenous shocks (e.g. the ones coming from the financial sector). Given the strong interdisciplinarity of the NETWORKS unit research, a regular collaboration with national and international experts in various fields (especially physics, mathematics, computer science, economics and finance) is expected. Responsibilities of the candidate will include project management activities, literature scoping, data collection and analysis, writing of publications, paper submissions to international peer-reviewed journals, presentations at international conferences and workshops.
