San Francesco - Via della Quarquonia 1 (Classroom 2 )
In November 2009 Oxford's Ashmolean Museum - the UK's oldest museum - reopened to the public after a major redevelopment that saw the creation of a brand new building by the architect Rick Mather and the implementation of a fresh approach to the display of its collections. This talk will discuss the unfolding of the project and the development of the new display strategy 'Crossing Cultures Crossing Time', with a particular focus on the planning of the new Japanese galleries.
